This week I want to share with you an amazing way to clean your shower for pennies. This DIY shower cleaner is fabulous! My house is 30 years old and I am planning on updating my master bathroom. I’ve only lived in my house for 5 years but I absolutely love my home. It is my happy place and I want to spend the rest of my life in our home. So my master bathroom is one of the last things I am getting around to redecorating. With that said, that explains why I still have the ugly white fiberglass shower base.
Since we moved into our house the shower base has been an eyesore to me. Of course my husband thinks it looks fine. I know how I want to remodel the bathroom and until I can do it the way I want, I am just keeping it very clean and organized until the big event.
The problem with the shower is the basin has ridges in the bottom and dirt and grime are filled in the crevices. I have bought so many commercial cleaners, even the gritty ones and nothing really cleans the stains. I’ve even used scrub brushes and a lot of elbow grease but it still looked dirty.
I came across a recipe for a fantastic DIY natural cleaner from Citywide Plumbing Pros and it works GREAT!! Not only did it make my shower base look much cleaner, but it works great in the tub, on tile and the sink. All you need to do is spray it on your surface, let it sit for 30 minutes and wipe awaywith a wet sponge. Everything will be shiny, clean with very little effort!! I would have taken a before and after picture but I am way too embarrassed for you to see my outdated shower and how dirty it looked. But take my word for it, this solution works great!
Here’s all you need:
1 plastic spray bottle
Dawn Dish Detergent
You want to use 1 part Dawn to 2 parts Vinegar. I used a 24 ounce spray bottle.
You will then heat 12 ounces (1 1/2 cups) of vinegar in the microwave. You just want to make it hot, not boiling. The vinegar and the Dawn will mix much better if the solution is warm. Using a funnel, pour the warm vinegar into the plastic spray bottle and then add 6 ounces (3/4 cup) of Dawn dishwashing detergent. Shake it up and your good to go.
You can forget about buying anymore of those expensive bathroom cleaners because this is all you will need!
